What did we do?

Over 72 hours we threw ourselves into a whirlwind of local creative stars, food experiences, and off-the-beaten-track activities, all in the name of restoring creativity and filling up our inspiration banks.

The itinerary included intimate studio visits, immersive discussions, hands-on workshops, unique culinary experiences and plenty of opportunities to soak in the best of Bali. In short, a behind-the-scenes look at Bali’s fascinating creative ecosystem that not many people get a chance to see.

We began with an amazing dinner in one of Ubud's best restaurants on Friday night, before waking up early on Saturday to admire the art of slow coffee at one of our favorite coffee shops. We spent an hour or two getting to know who we would be spending the weekend with before heading off to the first place. We visited two very different private studios to immerse ourselves in the world of different techniques. We got our hands on some fascinating materials, including the original blueprint method of cyanotype.

The day ended with a dinner in the middle of an organic garden and a magical performance by an architect-dancer’s site specific piece . The next day we headed to a newly completed private home in the middle of the jungle to dive into the world of Balinese craft, making our own outrageous flower crowns. Then we headed north again to a delicious lunch at one of Ubud's most special eco resorts and a few hours around a spring-fed pool soaking in Bali’s warmth and beauty. Our weekend ended with another special workshop focusing on textile art and eco-printing.

This weekend triggered a waterfall of ideas and gave us all a new appreciation of the hidden facets of Bali's creative ecosystem.

We’ll stop talking and let the participants have some space to tell you what they thought…

“I think the biggest take-away for me was having the time and space to play again. I was beginning to think I’d forgotten how to play, how to explore, how to experiment freely.

Having us all travel together was an added bonus. It gave us a chance to process what we’d just experienced and to learn from each other and see each other’s perspectives. All in all I had a great experience and really enjoyed the other participants. It was a good group of people. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a creative jolt. The weekend had Elami’s signature on it—it felt like TEDx. It was totally your style, which is one I admire.”

A chance to reconnect

“I consider myself a creative woman born in a creative family. However, lately I felt that I have been squeezing my creative part of the brain too hard. So, this weekend, I joined The Creative Refresh by Elami and Co. They did TEDxUbud so there’s no doubt that the event will be epic and legendary. I love how they arrange the whole thing... it’s coffee, dinners and lunches at an amazing restaurants, which gives us a chance to reconnect with people. To put down our phones and just talk to new friends. I think the best part of the whole weekend was meeting such inspiring, funny, accomplished and naughty individuals. We literally had to hear each other talk and talk for three days, and by the end of it we still liked each other. That, for me, is a true sign that the universe brought us together for a reason. After three days, I am REFRESHED and my heart is full of love. Thank you everyone.”
